It is already known that processed meats are not good for our health. However, a recent news release reports that the World Health Organization (WHO) will be shedding more light about the dangers of these processed foods.

According to The Daily Mail, the organization is planning to release a report that will provide a list of the processed meats found to be the leading causes of cancer. Additionally, the substances that cause cancer will also be included.

The report, who cited a reliable source, mentioned that processed meats such as ham, bacon, hotdogs, sausages, pastrami and salami as well as burgers will be included in the list. Additionally, these processed meats will be ranked along the likes of alcohol, asbestos, arsenic and cigarettes as "carcinogenic" to humans, or substances that directly causes cancer.

Furthermore, red meat is also said to be included in the list that could potentially cause cancer given that it contains high levels of fat that is blamed for causing harm in the "bowel lining," thus resulting to a possible "bowel cancer".

This announcement set to be made by WHO comes after a reported meeting of Scientists from 10 nations that include the UK.

As mentioned by the report of The Daily Mail, the scientists involved "reviewed all evidence" including the fact that the production of processed meats include adding chemicals as well as a study that emphasized that the said meats are the cause of one in 30 deaths due to the process that amplifies the effects of cancerous substances.

It has been previously discussed that red and processed meats can cause cancer. The World Cancer Research Fund suggested that there is "strong evidence" that eating such kinds of food increases the risk of obtaining bowel cancer, citing the compound called "haem" that gives the meats the red color.

This was supported by NHS Choices, pointing that red meats such as pork, beef, and lamb, though healthy, can cause cancer if eaten a lot and often.

Hence, both organizations suggested that eating red meats should be controlled in order to avoid the risk it poses in developing cancer.

The Daily Mail shared in the report that the announcement that WHO will make will definitely "send shockwaves" in the farming as well as processed food and fast food industry. Moreover, it is also likely to cause a massive effect in the sales of these products like what happened to the Sugar industry last year when WHO advised about the dangers of sugar overconsumption.

WHO will be announcing the report this coming Monday.
