A school in Trollhattan, Sweden became host to a shocking attack Thursday that left 2 dead and a number of people injured.
"Police received an alarm call shortly after 10 a.m. 'that a masked man in his 20s had entered the school ... carrying knife-like weapons in his hands, attacking students and adults at the school,'" CNN reported.
The attacker, who was clad in a black costume that covered his face and appeared to resemble that of Darth Vader in "Star Wars," reportedly first attacked a teacher outside the school premises.
"Then he enters the building and meets another one that he attacks," said Vastra Gotaland County superintendent Thord Haraldsson. "Then he systematically searches the school building. We can follow tracks of blood in the premises."
"He walks to the classrooms, knocks on the door, and when (a) pupil opens the door, he is attacked ... stabbed at the spot," he continued. "This happens in two different classrooms, and one of (the attacked students) is now deceased."
Responding police then fired two shots at the suspect, who later died from his injuries at a hospital.
"This is a dark day for Sweden," said Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven. "My thoughts go out to the victims and their families, pupils and staff, and the entire community that has been affected. There are no words to describe what they are going through right now."
Meanwhile, MailOnline reported that the purported killer is said to be Anton Lundin-Petterson, who is from Trollhattan.
"In the weeks before the attack, Lundin-Pettersson, who was described by witnesses as wearing a 'Darth Vader mask and helmet', had expressed sympathies with extreme right-wing organisations online," the British publication said. "He had 'liked' several YouTube videos glorifying Nazi Germany."
Intriguingly, the assailant had taken time to pose for a photo during the attack. A snap of him in costume had since been circulated among media outlets, as revealed by an anonymous female student who took the photo.
As he went through the school grounds during the attack, some students thought he was in for a Halloween prank.
"The young student had no idea that the blood on the large sword he was holding was real," MailOnline went on. "She had left her classroom to fetch a pen when she spotted two friends standing with a man wearing a mask and holding a blood-covered knife."
"Thinking that the attacker had dressed up as a holiday joke, her friends wanted a picture with him, so she obliged," the publication went on. "Seconds after the picture was taken, their teacher came out of the classroom and told the killer to leave as he was scaring the children."
He then proceeded to stab the teacher with his knife, and said, "Call an ambulance."
