The "Power Rangers" reboot has officially cast its second ranger to go along with the recently announced Pink Ranger in the form of the team's leader, the mighty Red Ranger.

According to IGN, Dacre Montgomery has been chosen by Lionsgate to play the Red Power Ranger, while Naomi Scott has recently been confirmed to be the Pink Power Ranger. This conventionally leaves the blue, black and yellow rangers to be cast.

The announcement of Motgomery was made through the Power Ranger Twitter account, which simply welcomed the young star to the Power Ranger family. Not much is known about the Australian actor, and his credits do not amount to much, save one made for a TV movie, which premiered in 2011 in Australia.

Coming Soon reports that Montgomery's name wasn't even on any shortlists that they were aware of, and him signing on as the Red Ranger shows that he must've impressed many people with his audition.

Typically, the role of the Red Ranger is that of the team's leader and is usually the team member who gets the most powers / upgrades during the course of any given season. Over the years, the other four team members tend to rely on the Red Ranger for emotional and battle support. Currently, the Red Ranger is the only color to appear in every season of the Power Rangers TV show franchise.

Reports have the "Power Rangers" reboot following the story of the first season of the TV show, in which a group of teenagers find themselves infused with extra-terrestrial powers and must use these newly found powers to fight off the forces of evil that threaten the planet. Screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashely Miller have confirmed that they have written a script that is both loyal to the source material as well as a bit more mature for today's audience.

The "Power Rangers" is the property of the reboot's producer Haim Saban, who first brought the show to the United States back in 1993. After its debut, the show soon became one of the most watched shows in the history of children's programming and has remained one of the top-rated action shows in its demographic during its long history.

The "Power Rangers" reboot will be the third movie released by Lionsgate, the first being "Mighty Morphing Power Rangers: The Movie", which debuted in 1995, and the second being "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie", which debuted in 1997. Currently, the "Power Rangers" reboot is scheduled for a Jan. 13, 2017 release.
