Director for the highly anticipated "War for the Planet of the Apes" Matt Reeves has confirmed that filming for the movie has officially begun.
Reeves also shared the first pictures from the set via his Twitter account. The picture shows two humanoid creatures communicating in some way, with one of the creatures riding a horse. The picture carries a hashtag of #ithasbegun. What this picture means is still unclear. While it could hold deeper meaning, it could possibly just be a test shot.
Superhero Type has confirmed so far that Andy Serkis will be reprising his role as Caesar for the film. Joining Serkis on the Apes side of the flim is comedic actor Steve Zahn, probably best known for his work as the dad in the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" movies.
Screen Crush reports that Gabriel Chavarria ("East Los High") and veteran actor Woody Harrelson ("Zombieland," "True Detective") are already confirmed to be on the human side of the war.
Not much has been revealed about the plot of the script, but when asked about what he thinks the movie should be about, Serkis commented that this movie should be about enjoying how the apes are evolving, and that there shouldn't be any radical time jumps. Serkis goes on to say that the involvement of Reeves in almost every aspect of the films so far is such a breath of fresh air, and that the story could entail as much as five more movies if possible.
Reeves, however, has spoken about his ideas regarding the film and that he believes that the best thing about making this sequel is that fans will get to see how the world has changed since the last film. Reeves believes that the story so far from "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" to "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" to this new film is a journey so unique and so rich that it will draw audiences and fans to watch the film series again and again.
Reeves has confirmed that he will be shooting the movie in 65mm, which has gone out of style as filmmakers have chosen to go digital. Using such a medium has become somewhat of an event with so little films done in the format.
"War for the Planet of the Apes" is due for release on July 14, 2017.
