There is good news and bad news for Katie Couric's daytime talk show.
The good news for Katie is the ratings. The daytime talk show has been averaging 2.1 rating among households and 2.7 million viewers a day for the week of Nov. 12 as November sweeps continues. The numbers are up 15 percent from the previous week an up 38 percent compared to fellow new talk show Steve Harvey.
Katie's success might be due in part of executive producer Jeff Zucker. He has worked with Couric since her time in NBC's morning show Today and helped launch her daytime show. Zucker, however, will be leaving Katie following accepting the CNN Worldwide President position this week.
"I'm very excited that Jeff has such a wonderful opportunity at CNN and equally excited for CNN," said Couric in a statement. "I'm also grateful that Jeff has been so instrumental in getting our show off to such a strong start and look forward to working with the fantastic staff we've assembled and building on the strong foundation we've created."
Zucker's move to CNN was confirmed in a memo to CNN staff.
"After a careful search process, I picked Jeff because of his extensive experience and track record in broadcast and cable news, his passion for the news business and his strong belief, which I share, that the best days of CNN lie ahead if we create news programming on each of our platforms that delivers on the core values of the CNN brand: accuracy, immediacy and offering all perspectives through great reporting, analysis, explanation and presentation," said Turner Broadcasting Chairman Phil Kent.
In a statement issued by CNN, Zucker is said to be "thrilled" to join the "distinguished team of journalists across the worldwide platforms of CNN."
He added, "The global reach and scale of the CNN brand is unparalleled in all of news. Outside of my family and the Miami Dolphins, there is nothing I am as passionate about as journalism. I spent the most rewarding years of my career as a journalist, and it's where I look forward to spending many more. I am grateful to Phil Kent for this opportunity, and I'm excited to return to daily newsgathering and compelling storytelling in a place that values those above all else."
Zucker will begin his new role in January.
