Are the concert gods about to give us "what we really, really want?"
Famous '90s music groups Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls are the hot topic of the rumor mill as there is said to have been talks of a possible tour in 2016. There has been buzz in the past few years about the two groups uniting in a concert and it has magnified recently because of a certain tweet, by Backstreet Boy member Nick Carter to Scary Spice Mel B (Melanie Brown): "What do you say @OfficialMelB #backstreetboysspidegirlstour could be epic!"
The online "nudge" has fuelled the fire and had fans getting crazy ideas about the tour becoming a reality in the near future.
E! Online, in a report, also recalled Backstreet Boys' AJ McLean's interview with Rolling Stone magazine, with McLean admitting that they have being "flirting with the idea" of touring with the British girl group. "The Spice Girls tour has been this idea bouncing around for the past year and a half, and it's something we're still talking about," he said.
Meanwhile, New York Daily News also remembers in a report, Melanie Brown's interview with Ellen Degeneres last 2013, where she told the talk show host that she would "love to" go on a reunion tour "in the next year or two."
The 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony in the United Kingdom saw the last performance of the girl-power group.
Last year, the Backstreet Boys went on tour with "When You're Gone" singer Avril Lavigne, according to New York Daily News. Presently "most recognized Backstreet Boy" Nick Carter is a well-received contestant in the 21st season of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars". This week, Carter danced to the boy group's popular single, "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" which earned him good reviews from the judges and a standing ovation from the audience.
Perez Hilton reports, however, that Carter took sometime during his rehearsal to explain his "controversial" tweet to Melanie Brown:
"I actually did a little Twitter shout-out to Mel B because we're friends and I said, 'Hey this could be a cool idea. What if we did a Backstreet Boys-Spice Girls tour?'"
He furthered:
"And there were talks in the past about it and we had done the New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys tour in the past. I think this would be that last hurrah - the two big groups from the late '90s. Maybe do a world tour, stadiums, stuff like that and do a package together."
Carter clarified, though, by saying "It was just an idea."
