After Marvel released its schedule for the movies in its Phase 3 lineup, the sequel to "Antman" was conspicuously missing. This led to concerns that the character may not be getting a sequel and would have to be moved to secondary character status, similar to the Falcon or Hawkeye.

However, Marvel has now officially given the sequel a release date, as well as a new name. According to Comic Book Resources, the sequel to "Antman" will now be called "Antman and the Wasp." This marks the first time that a female Marvel superhero will be a title character, which is fitting as the Wasp was a very important character in the early days of Marvel Comics.

Both Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are confirmed to return to their roles as Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne. Michael Douglas, however, has not been signed for any more Marvel movies, so it is currently unknown if he will return as Hank Pym.

Screen Crush reports that the original schedule for Phase 3 had to be shuffled to make room for "Antman and Wasp" as it is now reported that the movie is scheduled for release on July 6, 2018. The date was originally for the stand-alone "Black Panther" movie, which now has an earlier release date of Feb. 16, 2018. The "Captain Marvel" movie has been pushed back to March 8, 2019 after an original Nov. 2, 2018 release date. Rumors are circulating that Marvel did not want to compete with the first solo Ben Affleck "Batman" movie and was forced to move "Captain Marvel."

Currently, "Antman" has grossed about US$400 million worldwide, making it the ninth highest grossing movie this year. While those numbers aren't spectacular, the film can hardly be called a box office flop considering the US$130 million budget. Marvel also hopes the box office numbers will continue to rise as the movie has yet to be released in China.

Aside from Rudd and Lilly, no other actors have been confirmed to be in "Antman and the Wasp", and no director has been attached to the movie as of this article's printing. Paul Rudd is scheduled to be in the "Captain America: Civil War" movie as Antman, as well as in the next few "Avengers" movies.
