The match between Lucas Matthysse and Viktor Postol last Saturday was supposed be about how Matthysse could impress fans and the Manny Pacquiao camp for a possible tiff in 2016.

Too bad they overlooked what Postol had to offer. Besides, he didn’t get to 28-0 for nothing. And though he doesn’t claim it, such may have been enough to fire him up to get some attention.

By the 10th round of that match held at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, the improbably happened – Postol just KO’d Matthysse.

The victory pushes Postol to 29-0 but the real story of that was crushing the dreams of Matthysse as far as being Pacquiao’s opponent in 2016.

Apparently the thought may have just served more as a distraction for the Argentine brawler, who was looking to snag his first major boxing title. As it turns out, Postol won and is now the WBC super-lightweight champion and is expected to move on to better heights.

Does it place him as a possible challenger for Pacquiao? The scenario seems sensible though it is unlikely to happen.

Postol is unfortunately trained by the same person who handles Pacquiao – Freddie Roach. Hence that would make the tiff impossible to make, at least for now.

So if not Pacquiao, who?

It seems that the wise money is on Terrence Crawford, the current WBO lightweight champion who is set to defend his title against Dierry Jean this coming October 24.

If so, it wouldn’t be the first time that a possible Postol vs. Crawford match would be in the works.

According to the Ukrainian, he was actually offered to fight Crawford on the same date. For some reason however, Crawford’s camp opted to go with Jean instead.

“Before this fight, nobody knows this, but I had an offer to fight Terence Crawford for his WBO title,” Postol said to secondsout. “I had a choice to either fight Matthysse for a mandatory or fight him for the WBO title, and he we said yes. We said yes to the fight, but they changed their mind. Crawford didn’t want to fight me. I don’t know why, but I’m open to fight him right now,” Postol said.

Check out the video below of Postol calling out Postol.

The situation is now entirely different with Postol’s stunning win which many call a knockout. And word of a possible match could eventually prosper after Crawford’s match with Jean, with the understanding of course that Crawford comes out victorious.
