Instead of a red notebook and a pen, Renee Zellweger is now hugging a red iPad in the first photo that has emerged from the "Bridget Jones's Baby." The photo, shared by Universal Pictures UK, also served as the official confirmation that filming of the third film in the Bridget Jones franchise has already commenced on Oct. 2. Working Titles Films has also shared the same photo on their Instagram.
The production started 11 years after the "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" was shown in theaters in 2004. "Bridget Jones's Baby" is expected to land in theaters on Sept. 16, 2016, the same as the U.K. release. It will be directed by Sharon Maguire who also directed "Bridget Jones's Diary" in 2001.
As the title suggests, Bridget may find herself unexpectedly pregnant. No reports, not even rumors, claim that the baby's father is Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth, who is also set to reprise the role. At the end of the "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason," Mark proposed to Bridget and she said yes. During Bridget's parent's renewal of vows, she caught the bouquet.
Although Hugh Grant will not be back as Daniel Cleaver, Patrick Dempsey is onboard. Deadline is guessing that he will play the love rival in a similar capacity to that of Grant's former role.
The film is not the screen adaptation of Helen Fielding's novel "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy" that was released in 2013. The story of "Bridget Jones's Baby" has actually taken place before the events chronicled in the 2013 novel. The film is believed to be based on a separate screenplay written by Fielding.
Universal Pictures UK and Working Titles Films may have just confirmed the start of filming. However, it emerged in early August that filming has actually begun during Ed Sheeran's Croke Park Concert in July. According to sources who have spilled the beans to The Sun, the crews was seen during the concert, as they filmed a scene where Bridget sits on the shoulder of a mystery man.
According to the sources, the production used a stunt double for Zellweger in order to film the scene even with the large crowd of concert-goers.
"They knew the cat would be out the bag the minute people saw her at the show. Renee's body double and the cameramen were in and out of the crowd as quickly as possible" a source told The Sun. None of the major leads were also present during the said filming.
