Marvel has reportedly set its eyes on half-Maori director, Taika Waititi, to direct the "Thor 3: Ragnarok" that is set to hit theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.

Waititi, so they say, beat out Ruben Fleischer and will take on the job from Kenneth Branagh of "Thor 1" and Alan Taylor of "Thor: The Dark World. The scoop comes from production insiders who have spoken with The Wrap on condition of anonymity. Waititi directed "Flight of the Conchords," "What We Do in the Shadows" and wrote the script for Disney's "Moana."

Marvel has yet to confirm the report from The Wrap. The last official announcement made by the studio was that Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor.

As for the storyline, "Thor 3: Ragnarok" will pick up where Thor in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" left off, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said in the announcement. "Thor 3: Ragnarok" will be a very important movie for Marvel Studios Phase 3, he added. Whatever happens to Thor in the film will impact the rest of the movies that will come after, Feige said at the time.

Feige has offered glimpse to what the "Thor 3: Ragnarok" plot could be during a special fan Q & A event held on Sept. 30. In "Avengers: Age of Ultron," Thor will go back to start the investigation upon realizing that something bigger is coming and that they are being manipulated in a suspicious way.

"Whenever something interesting happens in the comics, whether it's something big, like a character shifting like Thor has done or even just a small image in a panel of a comic, we file it away to see if it can play a part in one of our stories," Feige said.

On that note, it will be interesting to think of new gods, seen from the comic series, that could be brought into the film. Movie Pilot lists three new gods that can possibly be seen in the next movie of the Thor franchise.

Tyr, God of War, maybe introduced. He is another child of Odin and Frigga and half-brother to Thor. God Fenris may also be brought into the story. He is one of the many offsprings that Loki had with Angerboda. Jormungand, a huge snake also known as Midgard Serpent, another of Loki's offspring, can also make "Thor 3" interesting.
