Doctor Strange may be one of the lesser known super heroes in the Marvel Universe. However, that does not take away from the fact that he is actually one of the most important characters storywise.
According to Comic Book Movie, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has stated that the sorcerer supreme will be playing a bigger role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward. Feige also confirms that the first "Doctor Strange" movie will be in fact another origins story.
By this time, fans must be tired of origins stories, but Feige states that the story of Doctor Strange is one of the best and most diverse origins stories in the Marvel Universe and it would be unfair for Marvel to deny them the journey Steven Strange had to go through to get his powers.
IGN reports that Benedict Cumberbatch has been confirmed to play the Doctor Strange in the movie. However, the studio head hinted that fans might want to watch what the movie does with Rachel McAdams' character. According to Feige, the actress plays a pivotal role in the movie as she represents a certain view of the world that Doctor Strange goes through during the movie. While she isn't going to be the main character, her point of view will be important.
Another character to watch for will be the Ancient One, portrayed by Tilda Swinton. Feige states that the ambiguous nature of the character will be very unique. While Swinton is obviously a woman, it will not be so obvious what gender the ancient one will be. Feige says that it is this ambiguous nature of the character that will bring more depth to the movie, especially knowing that the Ancient one is the mentor of Doctor Strange.
For those who are unaware of the origins of Doctor Strange, his real name is Dr. Steven Strange and he was one of the top surgeons of his field. However, one day Strange loses the use of his hands in an accident, which causes him to go into a downward spiral of substance abuse. Strange, however, hears of a miracle cure in the Tibetan mountains, where he finds the Ancient One and his role of Sorcerer Supreme.
That is but a brief intro into the world of "Doctor Strange". With a cast like Benedict Cumberbatch already attached to the role, the movie is bound for success. "Doctor Strange" is due out in theaters on Nov. 4, 2016.
