Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige has stated that "Captain America: Civil War" will mark the end of Captain America's trilogy in one way or another.
According to Screen Rant, this statement has sent the internet buzzing with rumors on what exactly that means for actor Chris Evans and his role as Steve Rogers. While it is no secret what happens to Steve Rogers at the end of the Civil War story arc, it is not yet certain whether Marvel will choose to go the route the comics ended up going.
For those who do not know the ending of the comic book story, Captain America eventually loses to Iron Man and is killed in the aftermath. Buck Barnes, aka the Winter Solider, is given the responsibility to be the next Captain America. Although this scenario might play out in the movie considering all the pieces of the puzzle are slowly coming into play, it may be unlikely, considering that Evans is still on contract for at least another two Avenger movies up to "Infinity War Part 2."
Another popular scenario, according to Inquisitr, is that Steve Rogers doesn't die at the end of the next film, but instead, the Winter Soldier ends up taking the proverbial bullet for his best friend. This could make sense as Bucky's death could be the reason for Rogers to give up the fight and perhaps even retire from being a Superhero, which would cause the Avengers team to go out and look for him during the "Infinity War Part 1."
While either scenario seems viable at this point in time, Feige stated during the release of "Avengers 2: Age of Ultron" for home distribution that he is very happy with the work that everyone has done on the "Captain America" triology. The studio head believes that when people look back at the original "Captain America" trilogy, they will see that it is one of the most unique and entertaining trilogies ever based around a single character.
Evans has stated before that he would like to retire from acting after his contract with Marvel ends, so this could mean that fans of Captain America may see another person taking the iconic shield into battle soon. However, fans will have to wait and see which direction Marvel decides to take the character after the last in the trilogy "Captain America: Civil War."
"Captain America: Civil War" is set to debut in theaters on May 5, 2016.
