For what may be the very first time, Olivia Pope was not able to "handle" it.
In a recent interview on Stephen Colbert's Late Show, Kerry Washington (who plays "fixer" Olivia Pope on ABC's Scandal) totally disagreed with the talk show host when he said that she is the only Pope "more famous", in a report by Refinery29. The Scandal actress admitted to abandoning her own event, the Purple Purse party --- a gathering to celebrate the purse she designed to help raise funds for victims of abuse and domestic violence --- just to catch a glimpse of Pope Francis when his fiat drove by.
"I was at an event last night and in the middle of the red carpet, I heard some reporters were missing. I heard he was three minutes away so I ran from the red carpet with two crews," Washington narrated to Colbert as per Daily Mail.
"I got to see him waving from his Fiat," she said in a report by Refinery29. "It was very exciting. Everybody was saying, 'Pope is seeing Pope!'"
The 38-year-old star also posted a video of her "fangirl" moment on Instagram:
"I got to see my celebrity crush. #twopopesonecity #fbf," she wrote in description of the video.
Her blatant admiration of Pope Francis did not stop there. Vanity Fair reports that the 38-year-old actress also confessed in an interview on "Live! with Kelly and Michael" that her celebrity crush is the Pope. "I think my celebrity crush is this Pope. I always get that question and I never want to say anybody because then you see him at a party. I figure I won't see the Pope at a party," she said with a grin.
"I think he's so special. I think he's so humble and so focused on service; just really focused on doing good in the world. Not being judgmental. Letting God be the judge," Washington furthered.
Meanwhile, Kerry also praised fellow guest, Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, during her interview with Colbert. Yousafzai performed a card trick on the show, which surprised the talk show host, according to Daily Mail.
The Scandal actress said of Yousafzai, as quoted by Daily Mail: "She is magic. When I was 17, 18, I could not do magic nor did I have a Nobel Peace Prize."
According to Refinery29, Washington also divulged details during her Colbert interview regarding her upcoming role as Anita Hill on the HBO film "Confirmation." While the actress did not reveal any "Confirmation" spoilers, Washington teases that that the plot "is much more complicated than anyone thought" and that we all should watch it.
