CSI fans, embrace yourselves for an unforgettable two-hour finale.
One of the longest-running CBS series is set to air its final episode on Sunday night, September 27, CNN reports.
According to The Chicago Tribune, the two-hour farewell episode -- strangely titled "Immortality" -- will be featuring former CSI actors Marg Helgenberger (who played investigator Catherine Willows) and Petersen (who played lab boss Gil Grissom). Helgenberger left after season three and Petersen remained in the role for more than eight seasons. The two will be joined by "relatively recent" additions Ted Danson, Elisabeth Shue, and Elisabeth Harnois, as per CNN.
Danson remarks that the finale will be a treat to loyal fans as it is "an opportunity to say goodbye to the people they fell in love with at the start." "It will be very satisfying," he added.
CSI premiered in October 2000 and was described as an "out-of-nowhere smash" having been the redemption of CBS after "The Fugitive" failed. It gained the title "most popular show in the world," as per CNN, by the end of 2000. The success of CSI gave birth to two long-running spin-offs with Miami and New York as locations. According to the Chicago Tribune, the newest addition, "CSI: Cyber," is believed to "survive" the original drama.
"I thought it was never going to succeed," says Jorja Fox, as cited by The Chicago Tribune.
"I figured there would be an audience for it, among those people who do crossword puzzles. I never thought the audience would also be everyone who's NEVER done a crossword puzzle!" William Petersen remarks as told by The Chicago Tribune.
CSI Creator Anthony E. Zuiker, on the other hand, thinks that CSI becoming a hint is credited to "rubbernecking."
"I think the show is kind of like a car wreck," he said in a statement to CNN back in 2003. "You want to keep watching it, but you don't want to turn away. And because people know it's not real and it's make-believe, and people are out there solving crimes and giving a great mystery week to week, I think that's what lures viewers to watch," he described.
"I still feel a little delirious," says Fox a few days after filming "Immortality" as per The Chicago Tribune.
"Right now, I really feel maniacally happy about it," she said. "I feel like, wow, look at this amazing run we were able to have! And now we've gotten a chance to close the book. That's a very comforting feeling," she added.
