Michelle Obama, the first lady, made headlines when she donned a black, elegant Vera Wang dress during state dinner held for the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, on Friday. Everyone has fallen in love with her and she was practically the talk of the town, in a very positive way.
It all started when Mrs. Obama took to Instagram to share a photo of the China State Dinner. The intention of the post was to give people a glimpse of what will take place for the night. However, the world fussed over the first lady.
Crystal Kayiza tweeted a photo of the first lady with the President. The caption reads, "when deep down you know he was almost the First Man." Another photo of the first couple, showing the first lady fixing the President's bow, was posted by Lisa Vikingstad. The photo's caption reads: "Michelle Obama in Vera Wang got Barack looking like he just realized his date to prom is by far the hottest." Twitter user Michael Vetter could not contain his admiration, saying "holy s*** Michelle Obama in vera wang at the Chinese state dinner..."
But the most touching praise that ended all praises came from the President himself. In a video, first reported by ET Online, the first couple shared a brief romantic moment after greeting President Xi and his wife. The President was captured looking at the first lady lovingly, and then he said: "May I just say, you look stunning."
According to ET Online, the off-the-shoulder black silk crepe mermaid gown was custom-made for the first lady. Hence, the architectural V-neckline and tulle sleeves and the hand-draped silk textural organza pleated skirt fit the first lady magnificently.
Designer Vera Wang had also taken to social media to express her delight for having the opportunity to dress Mrs. Obama for the night. "It is such a privilege, as an American of Chinese heritage, to have dressed First Lady for this state dinner honoring President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan, of the People's Republic of China," the designer said in her tweet.
The Cut described Wang's fashion as decorative, feminine and artsy-intellectual. The magazine said Wang is an expert in silhouette and passionate about sheer and textural. Her clients have loved her design because of her romanticism, the magazine said. Wang's touch is "whimsical and feminine, without looking saccharine, luxurious materials get worked and finessed with a singular flourish," the magazine further said.
