"I've been here before... But always hit the floor... I've spent a lifetime running... and I always get away... But with you I'm feeling something that makes me want to stay... If I risk it all, could you break my fall?"
Those are some of the lyrics that fans will sing along with while watching the new James Bond film, "Spectre," in theatres on Nov. 6. British crooner, Sam Smith, has just released the theme song, titled, "Writing's On The Wall," via Twitter on Friday. On Saturday, he took to Instagram to announce that the song is already number one on iTunes. According to a report from the Express, the new James Bond them song was released at 7:45 am UK time across British radio stations and it immediately crawled up to number one on the UK charts, in just a matter of 24 hours.
Singing the theme song for the classic is a dream come true for the British Crooner. "I have been dreaming of this moment for a long time," his tweet reads. Roger Moore, who was James Bond in films released from 1973 to 1985, was impressed. The Bond alum took to Twitter to express his admiration of Smith. "Sam Smith has delivered a very haunting and wonderfully orchestrated Spectre theme song," he twitted. Fans have also expressing their love for the new song.
However, some tweets, seen by Mirror UK, pointed out that the new song seemed like a ripped off from Michael Jackson's "Earth Song." Twitter user Mike Kurphy asked: "Is anyone else just hearing "Earth Song" by Michael Jackson?" Scottish radio and television presenter, Jenni Falconer, has also thought of the same. "Anyone else thinks Writing's On The wall has an Earth Song sound to it?" she tweeted. Here is the Spotify link to Smith's "Writing's On The Wall."
Aside from "Earth Song", "Writing's On The Wall" will naturally be compared with Adele's Bond song, the "Skyfall." Speaking with Elvis Duran and the Morning Show at the iHeartradio Music festival, Smith said he actually find being compared to Adele as "incredible." He explained that while he thinks his song is completely different, the fact that both songs are Bond themes, both songs have to have that Bond feel to them, hence the comparison. The 23-year-old British crooner also admitted of not being a Bond film fan as a young kid. He told Duran that he had not watched any of the past movies but that he started to watch them eventually, especially when Daniel Craig came on board. And now that he got to sing the theme song, "I'm a big fan!" he said.
