Conor McGregor is undoubtedly one of the top names in the UFC to date and one of the much awaited matches is that upcoming showdown involving him and bitter rival Jose Aldo, which takes place at UFC 194 in Las Vegas this December 12.

Recall that the two fighters were originally scheduled to face each other at UFC 189 back in July. Aldo was, however, forced to withdraw on account of a rib injury.

McGregor ended up facing Chad Mendes in lieu of Aldo and hacked a second round knockout victory when Mendes made the costly mistake of going for a guillotine choke that failed to connect.

This time and barring any unfortunate injuries, the two will finally face off. But it seems that UFC president Dana White has gone as far as looking beyond the December 12 tiff, saying that Frankie Edgar could be lined up as the "Notorious" next opponent.

"If he beats Jose Aldo, he told me he would also like to fight Frankie," White said via Fox Sports Live. "We'll see how this thing plays out."

Now before jumping to that possible bout, Edgar will have to do his part as well. The American mixed martial artist will have to prove himself ironically against McGregor’s last opponent – Chad Mendes – at the main event of The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale, which happens a day before the McGregor vs. Aldo clash (December 11).

Edgar joins the list of fighters who want a crack at the brash Irishman, though a win over Chad Mendes could probably catapult him as the next probable opponent.

Mendes has made it known that he wants a rematch with McGregor as well, citing that he was not completely prepared to fight him last July but chose not to pass up on the opportunity.

For his part, McGregor is considering a match with Edgar provided he puts up an impressive performance against Mendes this December.

“If Frankie was to put on a phenomenal performance and stop Chad, or maybe something like that, then I can say, alright, let’s answer the Frankie question, let’s shut him down real quick,” McGregor said via MMA Fighting.com.

As it stands, such should give Edgar added motivation against Mendes heading into his match at TUF22. The same holds true for McGregor, who is expected to have his hands full against Aldo the following night.

Hence, the future matches in the UFC, which will likely be set in 2016, hinges a lot on the two bouts so don’t miss these two tiffs in what promises to be an action-packed December of UFC fighting.
