Robin Van Persie has had an interesting 'up and down' year.
He led all players in the English Premier League with 30 goals and nine assists. In the UCL that season he scored a tremendous four goals in just seven matches despite his club doing poorly in the tournament.
After a strong EPL and UCL campaign, Van Persie would experience one of the low points of his year when the Netherlands lost all three matches at the Euro Cup. He scored one goal, but was completely invisible throughout the Dutch run at the Euro Cup.
In the summer he was transferred to Manchester United where he has gotten off to a tremendous start. Through 13 matches he has eight goals and four assists, even though he has been rather quiet of late for the club. In four UCL matches, he has three goals including a brace against CFR Cluj-Napoca.
His performance for Netherlands has started to improve has as he has put together two goals in three World Cup Qualifying matches.
Best Moment of the Year: Leading the EPL with 30 goals to become its leading goal scorer.
Chances at the Top Three: He has a chance considering his exploits in the EPL and his fine form to start the 2012-13 season. It really comes down to whether voters want to give a Spaniard the honor for the Euro 2012 championship or if they want to give Falcao the honor for his brilliant year.
