Irish-born actor Liam Neeson is set to star in a new action thriller called "The Commuter", sources close to the actor report.
The film will be distributed by StudioCanal and will place Neeson as a businessman on his daily commute to work who got caught up in a criminal conspiracy, reports Variety. The film's script has been written by Byron Willinger and Phil de Blasi, while Andrew Rona and Alex Heinman have been reported to produce the film. Currently, there is no director attached to "The Commuter."
The Irish actor has become one of the go-to actors as of late to be in these types of action suspense films. While he has had several memorable parts, such as Qui-Gon Jinn in "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace," and R'as Al Ghul in Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy, the actor has become one of the go-to action stars for the action thriller genre.
Neeson has already completed two films this year, Fox's "Taken 3" and Warner Bros.' "Run All Night." Neeson is also set to star in the Martin Scorsese film "Silence" as well as the Focus movie "When a Monster Calls," according to Deadline. The actor's schedule also includes that of American World War II and Korean War General Douglas MacArthur in "Operation Chromite," and a voice over part as the lead monster in the animated film "When a Monster Calls."
It seems that a lot of studios are clamoring for Neeson's talents. In fact, NBC has confirmed that they will be making a series that is based on the "Taken" franchise. It is yet unknown, however, if the 63-year-old actor will be attached to the series or not.
The plot of The Commuter has been slightly revealed as Neeson's character being a blue-collar businessman who gets unwillingly caught up in a criminal conspiracy. Neeson has no choice but to resolve the conspiracy as it endangers him and several important people in his life.
While the star is most notable for his parts in heavy action movies, Scorsese's "Silence" is actually an adaptation of a novel done by Shushaku Endo about Jesuit missionaries in 17th century Japan. This time is most remembered as the time when Japan was weary of Western religion and missionaries were treated poorly and often beaten or killed by the Japanese.
Filming for "The Commuter" will be in New York City and will start in the Spring of 2016.
