Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddmore in the original "Ghostbusters" movie, has been confirmed to have a role in the series reboot due out on July 15, 2016.

Hudson's involvement in the film was confirmed via his Twitter account, where the actor stated that he had such a great time on the set and that he has a great amount of respect for the film's cast and director Paul Feig.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Hudson joins Ghostbusters originals Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray, who also make cameos in the film. It has been confirmed that both Aykroyd and Murray will not be returning to their roles as Peter Venkman and Ray Stantz. The actors have confirmed that they will be appearing in the film in small, cameo roles.

Hudson was seen on the set of the film on the last day of filming. It is yet unknown if Hudson will be playing Winston Zeddmore in the film. When asked about Hudson's involvement in the film, the film's studio Sony declined to make a statement on what role the actor will be playing.

Hudson's character was actually the fourth member of the original Ghostbusters, who was hired when the original trio of Venkman, Stantz and Egon Spengler (played by the late Harold Remis) could not handle the increasing need for the Ghostbuster's services. Zeddmore plays more of the normal everyday character who is originally on the team to make a steady paycheck.

However, as the team's adventures and run-ins with the supernatural increase, Zeddmore gains a better understanding of the job and eventually becomes an important member of the Ghostbusters.

The reboot of the story, according to IGN, will be taking a completely different approach to the original material. Instead of four men being the Ghostbusters, four women will take up the Proton Packs and traps in the new movie. Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones have been cast to play the new team of Ghostbusters. Chris Hemsworth, famous for his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been cast to play Kevin, the team's receptionist, replacing the iconic Janine from the first movies.

Hudson had been connected to the long rumored "Ghostbusters III" which had run into several problems during its development. The project had been in production limbo for several years until it was finally scrapped in favor of this new reboot after the death of Harold Remis in 2014.
