Nothing but good news, it seems, for The Big Bang Theory fans.
It took eight solid seasons but the TBBT fans are finally getting a well-deserved wedding - aka The Penny and Leonard nuptials! Last Monday, CBS released a sneak peek of the season 9 premiere via Entertainment Weekly, as reported by Variety. The show's very first couple appears to be preparing to walk down the aisle of a Las Vegas Chapel.
It can be recalled that season 8 ended on a frustrating note, which spurred fans' theories and speculations about the fate of Leonard and Penny's relationship. However, the latest teaser released has certainly dispelled negative rumours. According to an interview with TVLine, as reported by the Dailymail, The Big Bang Theory's showrunner Steve Molaro has set the record straight and divulged that the couple "will definitely be going through with the ceremony."
Molaro also thinks that this season is timely for the next stage of Penny and Leonard's relationship. "We're nine years in and we want to keep things moving forward, as well as exciting and scary and fun," he says, as per TVLine. "And I think this is a great way to do it. Penny has had commitment issues for years and years now, especially when it comes to Leonard, and even she feels, 'How much longer are we going to go back and forth on this? Let's just jump in and hope for the best,'" he further adds in the same report.
However, Molaro tells fans that the couple getting hitched is just the start of their journey. "That's really only the beginning of the story. As fun and as great as it is to see them get married, that's only part of it," Molaro remarks as per TVLine.
TVLine also notes that the arrival of the woman Leonard admitted to have kissed while on that North Sea expedition might just be the proper spoiler to their honeymoon.
Molaro, though, in a statement to EW as per Variety, said that Penny "can get past this."
Shamy fans, however, might be on their toes for a little while as there is no confirmation regarding the fate of Sheldon and Amy as a couple.
Meanwhile, Mayim Bialik, who plays Amy, has some assurance for fans. "This is not a breakup," Bialik says as per Entertainment Weekly (EW). Bialik fondly shares, as quoted by EW, "My mom kept asking me why all of her neighbors are asking if I'm kicked off the show. [Amy] needs space and the first episode explores how Sheldon deals with that notion," she expresses.
"The show is moving forward in big brave ways and so are Leonard and Penny," Molaro told EW as cited by Variety. "People have rocky patches in their lives - Sheldon and Amy and Leonard and Penny and you can either give up or you can work on them. ... I would say, for both couples, sometimes things need to get worse before they get better," he further said.
TBBT's Season 9 premiere, titled "The Matrimonial Momentum," will be airing on the 21st of September at 8 PM on CBS.
