Barca boss Luis Enrique returns to the Olympic Stadium with his Barcelona team who start their bid to become the first side ever to retain the Champions League.
Enrique will look across at the home team dugout and think back to his less than successful time with the Romans, now just a distant memory after the success he enjoyed in his debut season with the Blaugrana.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference the Spaniard wasn't letting his past cloud his vision for Tuesday's game. Enrique said: "I'm back in Rome with a few more years on the clock, but also more experience. Rome is a city I have only positive memories of. For me it will be a special game."
The Spanish coach will be boosted by the return of centre back Gerard Pique, who missed Barca's weekend fixture through suspension and, aside from the missing Dani Alves at right-back, Enrique will have a full squad to choose from. Inevitably this will mean that the infamous threesome of Neymar, Luis Suarez and the bang in form Lionel Messi will start up front.
Barca have enjoyed a good start to the new La Liga season and having registered an impressive 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid at the weekend will be exuding the confidence that has aided them in becoming such a devastating team in recent years.
Roma have also enjoyed a positive start to their domestic campaign and having boosted their squad during the summer with the signings of Edin Dzeko, and Mohamed Salah will be hoping to pose a threat as they attack a Barcelona defense that has looked shaky at times in recent weeks.
The Italians struggled to impose themselves on the tournament last season and will be wanting to restore some pride after some painful defeats in last year's group stages, particularly at home.
Roma coach Rudi Garcia speaking ahead of the match outlined what he is hoping to see from his team, saying: "We will have to play as a team, in defense and attack. We will give it everything and work for each other, and use the ball properly when we attack."
While this year's group stages will bring other intriguing storylines and reunions with former clubs for players and managers alike Barcelona and Roma's two matches may well be the most interesting and most exciting.
Perhaps deep down Enrique will hope to leave the Olympic Stadium having been vindicated and having watched his Barca team punish the Roma fans, who once called for his head.
However, given the tight nature of the Champions League group stages, whatever the result on Tuesday night, as Enrique heads down the tunnel he will be looking further into the future and plotting how his side can not just overcome Roma in their return leg at the Nou Camp, but also upset all of Europe and carve their names into the history books.
