As far as Amir Khan is concerned, there is only one man on his radar: Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.
Khan, who has not fought since defeating Chris Algieri back in May, has been linked to a couple of boxers who he said were no more than rumors.
The two names mentioned were Ruslan Provodnikov and Shane Mosley. The camp of Provodnikov claims that they are currently in talks with the people behind Khan but as the British southpaw explained through an interview with Sky Sports News, he hasn’t heard anything about it nor was he informed by his manager Al Haymon of such a development.
"I don't know anything about it, [Manager] Al Haymon has not even mentioned that fight to me.
With that said, could Khan’s next fight very well be in 2016?
Recall that if he is intent on pursuing Pacquiao and no one else before 2015 ends, the earliest that Khan could fight once more would be the first quarter of 2016.
This is because Pacquiao is currently on the mend after undergoing surgery for his right shoulder. The PacMan is currently in rehab and would need medical clearance before resuming any boxing-related activities.
Though Khan is adamant about facing Pacquiao, is he the first choice for the Filipino boxer’s camp?
Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz did mention before that he believes Khan lacks the punch and grabs a lot.
Then, there is also word that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is eager to set a tiff between Pacquiao and Terence Crawford. The thing is that this plan hasn’t gained any ground, which should point to a possible Khan vs. Pacquiao match instead.
Khan and Pacquiao know each other pretty well, being former sparring buddies and at one time handled by trainer Freddie Roach. As Khan points out, the fact the he trained under Roach could account for a great storyline.
"It's a good fight for me. We know each other quite well, we've done up to 100 rounds of sparring. I used to train with Freddie Roach so it makes a good storyline as well.
Both camps have met earlier in 2015 about a possible tiff, something that failed to materialize when Floyd Mayweather Jr. agreed to fight Pacquiao back in May.
For Khan, the Briton southpaw was hoping to get a crack at Mayweather for his alleged farewell fight. However, as everyone knows, Mayweather ditched Khan once more and opted to face a less-impressive boxer in Andre Berto.
