It has been over 10 years since the public last saw the Parr family and their heroic adventures, and fans of the Incredibles have been wondering when they would see a sequel to the highly successful film.
According to Collider, it could be in the very near future. Brad Bird, who is writing and possibly directing "Incredibles 2," recently spoke with Collider about the status of the film.
Bird states that he is about three-quarters done with the script, and he has already started to board parts of it. The director also said that a lot of people who helped with the first film are also part of the sequel, and that it has been a lot of fun so far to work on the movie.
When asked about a release date for the film, the director said that release dates for movies being worked on so far in advance can be flexible. One movie could be easier to write and produce than another, which in turn would cause the studio to push the release dates at an earlier time. Bird states that his compact team contributes to the speeding up of the film's release date. Movie News Guide reports that this date is going to be sometime in 2018.
With regard the story/plot of the movie, Bird remains mum. The director states that in 2004 when the first film came out, the only two superhero franchises making films were "X-Men" and "Spiderman." The director states that this has now drastically changed in the last 10 or so years, and the way people look at superhero movies also changed. Bird is looking into telling the story of the Parr family instead of the "Incredibles" - much like he did with the first film.
Fans of the first film are still wondering on how long the timeline of the film will progress between the first one and the sequel. Many viewers are wondering how the kids' powers, especially those of the youngest Parr child, Jack-Jack, have changed during this time. Questions about who the main villain for the film have arose as well, as Syndrome was arrested at the end of the first film. Rumors have connected Jack-Jack to the main villain role. However, that is yet to be confirmed
Fans of the "Incredibles" will just have to wait and see what Bird has in store for the Parr family.
