"The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" started with a six-minute snippet showing Fallon doing an impersonation of the controversial business mogul turned presidential candidate, Donald Trump. What particularly amusing about the sketch was that Fallon, dressed as Trump, complete with a wig, was interviewing the real Trump.
Doing an impression of Trump, Fallon told the White House candidate: "Let's be honest, Fallon's a lightweight. No way he deserves to interview me. The only one qualified to interview me...is me." To which Trump replied: "Me interviewing me? That's what I call a great idea." Watch the video here.
At the start of the episode, Fallon admitted that as a comedian himself, he was guilty of making jokes about Trump's political bid in the weeks following his official declaration. "I'm a comedian, I come out here every night, I have to make jokes about everybody. I gotta say, probably eight months ago if I said your name as running for president, it would get a laugh. And then all of a sudden, you started seeing a switch," Fallon said.
During the actual interview, Fallon asked Trump's opinion about Kanye West running for president. West announced in a speech during the MTV's Video Music Awards that he will join the race for the White House's seat on 2020.
"Kanye has been so nice to me. He always says great things to me, so I love Kanye. I love people who are nice to me," Trump told Fallon as quoted by the Entertainment Weekly. "Kanye is actually, I know him a little bit, he's actually a much nicer person than people think. Now if he happens to run for office, and I'm running against him, I'm gonna take that back," Trump said.
Now that another Republican presidential debate is happening next week, Fallon noted Trump's amazing magnet for high ratings. Trump said he would appreciate it very much if CNN and FOX, which both hosts debate, could donate portions of their earnings, obtained during his debate appearances, to a charitable organization.
Speaking of ratings, Variety reported that "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" had 4.3 million viewers and a 1.5 rating in adults 18-49. Stephen Colbert's "The Late show" on the other hand, which had Joe Biden as guest had only 3.03 million viewers and 0.8 in 18-49 rating in adults. However, variety noted that Fallon's show was delayed for an hour to give way to the NFL's season kickoff game and the football fans might have stayed tuned in after the game, increasing "The Tonight Show's" rating for the night.
