The newest teaser video for "Scandal" Season 5 was just released -- by now, Olivia and Fitz fans couldn't be happier.
According to TV Line, there is no denying that Olivia and Fitz will be an official (unofficial) couple for the next season. This will serve as very bad news for Mellie.
Picking up from the Season 4 finale where Olivia and Fitz found themselves in a White House balcony, the episode ended while the two happily made up for lost time.
While Fitz and Olivia fans are squealing for joy, Mellie is left with a broken heart.
In the new promotional teaser, it's crystal-clear what the next season will be about. The video opens with Olivia and Fitz enjoying some romance in bed and ended with the president telling Mellie that he wants a divorce.
Bellamy Young, who plays Mellie in the Shonda Rhimes hit series, previously admitted in an interview that she feels sorry for her character. Although she won a seat in the senate, Fitz kicked her with a cold heart.
"Poor Mellie, man...," Bellamy said. "It should be the best time in the world - she got her senate seat! - but it's like the worst, because Fitz kicked her out. And he was so cold when he did it."
In an earlier article by TV Line, Young said that Mellie knows in her heart what is going on between Olivia and Fitz. And with the recent reconnection of Fitz and Olivia, it will be quite a blow on Mellie.
"There is no greater pain than losing a child, but she's absolutely devastated. She's having to regroup, but she's sort of by herself completely, because everyone is alienated at this point. She's never going to give up without a fight - I mean, shes Mellie! - but a lot of options are no longer open to her," Young said.
Although some fans of the show hate her character, Bellamy said that being given the role of Mellie is a "gift of a lifetime." The actress said she is extremely happy to be playing her role, Design and Trend reported.
Apart from the teaser video, other updates include the return of former guest star Cornelius Smith Jr., who was promoted as season regular. The actor will reprise his role in the popular series as Marcus Walker.
The Season 5 of "Scandal" will premier on September 24 at 9/8c on ABC.
