Season 6 of "Walking Dead" is set to premiere in October and several residents of Alexandria are getting the nod to cast regulars from re-occurring members.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Deanna Monroe (Tovah Feldshuh), Alexandra Breckenridge (Jessie Anderson) and Spencer Monroe (Austin Nichols) will all now be regular characters on the show. Deanna is the leader of Alexandria and is based on the character of Douglas from the comic. In the comic, Douglas is the leader of the Alexandria Safe Zone, while Spencer is his last living son. Jessie is a formerly married woman whose abusive husband Rick killed at the end of Season 5.
Comic Book also reports that Jessie will be the new love interest of Rick (Andrew Lincoln). Could this mean that Rick is finally over Lori? However, if the show is to follow the comic book, Deanna and Spencer may not stay regulars for long. Warning! Possible spoilers ahead!
The character of Douglas, who in the show is being replaced with Deanna, dies when walkers are finally able to take over Alexandria. While being eaten alive, he shots his gun wildly and hits Carl with a bullet. Jessie also dies in the attack, and Rick is forced to take her arm off as she would not let go of her son.
Carl getting shot is a pivotal event in the comic books, and it would be difficult for the show to skip it. However, as viewers have seen with Glenn still surviving, events that occurred in the comic can be changed.
In addition, "Walking Dead" has been known to kill off series regulars fairly quickly into a new season, so becoming a regular doesn't mean that the character is set to survive. The prime example is that Gareth (Andrew J. West) was made a series regular for season 5 and was promptly killed three episodes later.
With the addition of the three new regulars, the total of regulars for the start of season 6 now stands at 18, with Rick, Daryl (Norman Reedus), Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Carl the only survivors from Atlanta, the original city in Season 1.
With season 6 to premiere on AMC on October 11, fans of the show, as always, will be wondering who will survive up to the end of the season and possibly the end of the series.
