For years, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his camp have alleged that Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao was using PEDS but now it looks like he will have some explaining to do.

This is after a report from Thomas Hauser of SB Nation reveals that the undefeated American boxer received an illegal IV before his scheduled tiff against Pacquiao last May 2.

The report bares that the United States Anti-Doping Agency found traces of the IV after the weigh-ins. Details have yet to be divulged.

With this new development, Mayweather could be found in violation of World Anti-Doping Agency regulations which does not allow fighters to receive IV injections. The reason behind such is that the injections could act as masks to cover other banned substances, with PEDS as one of them.

Further on the report, the USADA allegedly offered Mayweather an exception but the waiver was only used 18 days after the May 2 fight. If true, this means that the exception was not in place and was in violation of Anti-doping regulations.

This bit somehow tarnishes Mayweather’s long standing claim of being a clean fighter though it remains to be seen if this episode would have any bearing on the part of the American boxer.

In the wake of constant accusations that he was using PEDS at that time, Pacquiao went as far as suggesting a $5 million fine in the event that any fighter would be found positive for PEDS.

At that time, the focus was more on Pacquiao and not Mayweather and surprisingly Floyd Jr. shunned the seemingly sincere gesture of the PacMan to prove he was clean. The latest report now casts a bit of doubt on how truly drug-free Mayweather is.

The timing of this report couldn’t have come at a worst time. Mayweather is scheduled to face Andre Berto this coming weekend as he goes for the 49-0 record that will reportedly be the icing to his colourful career.

According to Mayweather and the people around him, it will also be Floyd’s last fight in the ring. This is despite majority belief that the American boxer will continue to fight in 2016.

That coming match will of course be tainted with these allegations.

Mayweather is expected to come out with a win on September 12 though the post-fight interviews and press conference is perhaps what most people are waiting for. And now, a new issue has come up, something that could tarnish his supposedly clean reputation.

Could this be an equalizer of sorts considering Pacquiao got criticized for withholding his shoulder injury? Stay tuned!
