With the highly anticipated "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" only a few months away from its theatrical release, rumors have been circulating that the higher ups at Warner Bros want to make changes, specifically in terms of showing more of Batman and less of Superman.
Heroic Hollywood reports that the rumor started after a closed door viewing of the movie. While the movie got overwhelmingly good reviews from those who watched it, one thing was asked and that was to give Batman more screen time.
Why would that be? In the DC comics, both characters have about the same draw power - with no one being more popular than the other. So why would the higher ups want more time focusing on the Dark Knight? According to Den of Geek, the biggest reason is that Ben Affleck is a way better actor than Henry Cavill.
In general, there could be arguments but Affleck is a veteran. Plus, he does have an Oscar. The screen test apparently have shown the gap between the two actors. In almost any scene that the two are together, Affleck has been stealing the spotlight away from Cavill.
The rumor further shared that after the private showing, the higher ups were so impressed with Affleck that they signed the actor to a three-picture deal with a solo movie said to be directed and starred by Affleck. This would mean that Affleck would have locked the role of Batman for at least the next 10 years. Whether that is good or bad for the character is yet to be seen as the actor's performances have been known to be either incredibly good ("Good Will Hunting" / "Gone Girl") or just plain awful ("Daredevil" / "Gigili"). Fans will have to see it for themselves to form their own opinion.
Further evidence of Batman getting more time in the film is that the story line has been confirmed to be following Frank Miller's iconic graphic novel, titled "The Dark Knight Returns." The story revolves almost entirely around Batman and his return to crime fighting despite old age. Superman is barely in the story other than to help the government out and during his fight with Batman. How this plays out is going to be interesting, to say the very least.
With confirmed appearances from fellow Justice League members, such as Wonder Woman and Aquaman, Superman's screen time might actually be shrinking faster than you can say the Atom.
