The character of Spider-Man is finally set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in "Captain America: Civil War." Fans of the epic comic book story have been wondering since the announcement if the character will somewhat follow the events that happened on the comic pages.
Almost all comic book movies take certain liberties to make the movie more believable to movie goers, and it seems that "Civil War" will be no different. According to Comic Book Movie, Spider-Man will be getting help from Iron Man, aka Tony Stark, but not as much as in the comics.
In the comics, Stark creates a whole new robotic suit for Spider-Man after he reveals his true identity to the world. The suit was soon dubbed the Iron Spider by fans. Stark added four robotic arms and changed the color of the suit from the iconic red, black and blue to red and gold. The arms were to react to Peter's thought, similar to that of his nemesis: Doctor Octopus. Little did Spider-Man know that Stark put in a fail-safe protocol in the event that Spider-Man would ever defect to Captain America's side.
Eventually, Spider-Man did defect and was one of the pivotal figures in Civil War.
According to Cinemablend, Spider-Man will be much younger than he was originally in the comic books. He will be sporting an unusual costume that hasn't been seen before in either the comics or the movies. Reports say that it will be more of a home-made costume which will definitely look that it was poorly made. Stark will be a sort of mentor to the new Spider-Man, showing him how to improve his costume and most importantly, his web-shooters.
While the exact role that Spider-Man will be playing in Civil War still remains a mystery, the upgrades the web slinger will be getting are surely going to make him closer to his comic book character. While Spider-Man was one of the major contributors in the comic book story, it seems that he will be placed in the background as a support character more than anything else.
It has also been confirmed that Andrew Garfield, who played Spider-Man in the last two Spider-Man films, will not be returning to the role. Spider-Man will be making his debut in "Captain America: Civil War," which will open in theaters on May 6, 2016 and in his own Marvel solo movie in 2017.
