The next instalment in the "Bourne Identity" series has formally casted a new villain for Jason Bourne to fight.
In an exclusive report, Variety stated that Vincent Cassel will play an assassin hired to track and kill Bourne. The role was originally casted for "Lord of the Rings" star Viggo Mortensen and the actor was linked to the role as early as last July. However, Mortensen did not take the role and Cassel was soon signed to play the part.
Cassel is best known for some his most recent roles as villains. He played a manipulative ballet director in the award winning film "Black Swan" as well as other independent films over the years. This role will be the most high profile role the actor has taken.
Screen Rant states that filming for the next chapter in the Bourne series will start soon in Europe. The film is the return to the Bourne franchise for series original Matt Damon as well as director Paul Greengrass. The duo have been credited for co-writing the script. Those close to the pair said that "Bourne 5" will be nothing like anyone has seen before.
Cassel will be joining the cast of "Bourne 5," which is not the final name for the movie, with big names such as Tommy Lee Jones and Julia Stiles. Stiles is also a returning character in the series.
Currently, the plot remains a highly kept secret as several questions surround the sequel. One of the biggest questions is where has Jason Bourne been all this time? Fans of the series are aware that "Avengers" actor Jeremy Renner had started in the last Bourne movie as Aaron Cross. While Renner is not set to be in this instalment, the actor has gone on to say that he hopes that one day he and Damon can do a sort of team up.
The Bourne series has been quite successful up to this point earning about USD $1 billion spanning over four movies. With Damon returning as Bourne, fans of the series have high hopes that the actor can find the magic of the first three movies.
"Bourne 5" is set for theatrical release on July 29, 2016.
