Movie production studio Lionsgate is currently working with Gearbox Software and Take-Two Interactive to bring to screen a movie adaption of the "Borderlands" franchise.

According to Gameplanet, the creative team that has already been signed on are producers Avi and Ari Arad. The duo has been behind several famous comic book movies, such as "Iron Man," "Spiderman," "The Amazing Spiderman" and "X-Men", just to name a few.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger have said that they are excited for the movie and that they believe they have brought together the right team to put the "Borderlands" movie together.

Variety reports that Lionsgate plans to keep the tone of the movie very similar to that of the video game franchise. For those who have not yet played "Borderlands", the games are set in a wild west setting in a different world. The games combine a tone of brash humor, ultra violence, as well as a bit of sci-fi suspense. Friedman says that the studio would have no problems if the film would carry the dreaded rated R content rating by the ratings board.

"Borderlands" debuted on several consoles back in 2009, including the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. The game was an instant success with over 26 million copies sold. The game play for the entire "Borderlands" franchise is that of a first person shooter, where the gamers can choose which of the pre-determined character classes to play. The main way that "Borderlands" differed from the other FPS games at the time is that each character can be leveled up, learning new powers and abilities that are only specific to the class the player chose.

When asked about the picture Gearbox, President Randy Pitchford has stated that continuing to work on the "Borderlands" franchise outside the video game market has been a treat thus far. Pitchford says that the company is happy to see that the team put together to make the film is topnotch, and fans will be happy with the final product.

Currently, there is no script or actor attached to the film. There is no real report on any release dates as well. Hopefully, fans of the franchise will be given more information as time goes by.
