The sequels to the successful "Fifty Shades of Grey," "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed," are reportedly going to be filmed simultaneously for reasons that remain vague as of press time
The report comes as "House of Cards" director James Foley was named as the director for both films.
In April, Universal officially announced that "Fifty Shades Darker" will be released in theaters on Feb. 10, 2017.
The company also announced that "Fifty Shades Freed" will hit theaters on Feb. 9, 2018.
The announcement was made at CinemaCon in Las Vegas according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.
According to a report from the Entertainment Weekly, the "House of Cards" director is already in talks to direct the film but no final contracts had been inked yet.
The report also mentioned that Foley will be filming the two sequels at the same time for him to meet Universal's target release dates.
Judging by the huge space between the film's release dates, the production has all the time to schedule its filming. So much so that they would not have to cram for the two films to be filmed back to back.
If a piece written by Roger Friedman of Showbiz 411 is anything to go by, then Universal may have decided to film the two sequels at the same time due to budget constraints.
"I was told two weeks ago that the movies would be made with overlapping productions to save money," Friedman wrote.
He added that "The Hobbit and "Lord of the Rings" were done as well.
In March, issues about the films budget had already surfaced with both the lead stars, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, reportedly demanding for talent fee increase.
According to a report from Movieweb, "Fifty Shades of Grey" earned a whopping $550 million in international box office.
Production insiders revealed to Movieweb that Dornan and Johnson were both paid $250,000 respectively plus box office bonuses.
Since the two have signed a three-picture contract, they have since negotiated for a 7-figure raise after the box office success of "Fifty Shades Of Grey."
Movieweb reported that both Dornan and Johnson were not paid any backend compensation for "Fifty Shades Of Grey."
The website also reported in March that "renegotiations are still months away." At the time, Movieweb reported that Producer Dana Brunetti does not seemed like she is keen about giving the actors the demanded pay raise.
