The much awaited bout between Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez will surely be something to look forward in what Golden Boy Promotions promoter Oscar Dela Hoya will be an action-packed fight.
The fight is set for November 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, tagged as the mega fight that is affordable and something that will not disappoint. And seeing how the two fighters have scored their past wins, it is not hard to believe why.
Canelo Alvarez dropped James Kirkland three times before coming out with a TKO win while Miguel Cotto knocked down Daniel Geale twice before winning via TKO as well.
The TKO wins may be an indication but the manner to which both fighters ended up with those wins should give fans a sneak peak on what to expect.
However, the camps of both fighters seem to be hinting that such may not be the case for the whole fight as both fighters try to add some mental angle into it.
Cotto for one knows that Alvarez is younger and will most likely try to wear him out with the Mexican constantly moving and steer himself away from the dangerous punches of the Puerto Rican boxer.
"People say when you get older, you have to work harder. That's not true. You just have to be smarter," says coach and trainer Freddie Roach via the LA times on Cotto.
At 35, Cotto may be giving away a lot as far as age is concerned but apparently he has the more experience heading into the match. Will it be a factor as he tries to show Alvarez a thing or two in the ring?
Alvarez on the other hand has a big advantage in age, being 10 years younger. He is expected to be oozing with energy and perhaps being the more aggressive fighter. And as expected, one of his trainers says that the Mexican wonder boy will be doing a lot of movement.
"Our strategy is to move a lot -- side to side -- to use angles, to win by boxing," Reynoso said.
With the revelations from both camps, it seems to be ending up as another boring fight with both looking to fight defensively before taking a big punch when the opportunity arises. Could the alleged mega-fight end up as a dud as well?
Many believe that both fighters will still engage and try to knock the other out. It may depend on how both size each other up. One could go in for the kill or wait for the opportune moment.
Whatever happens, it does seem hard to imagine both fighters holding back their punches. Something has got to give and surely an explosive exchange is bound to ensue. And that is not for just one instance but for many variable cases as both fighters seek a crucial win to boost their record and of course gain bragging rights.
Tickets for the Cotto vs. Alvarez megafight this coming November will start selling by 10 a.m. Tuesday. Price range of the tickets start at $150 and cost as much as $2000.
