The "Suicide Squad" movie has long been rumored to have several cameos from DC comics superheroes. Batman has been seen in the trailer, and rumors have been circulating that Aquaman might be in the custody of the United States Government; but what about DC's arguably most famous hero Superman?
Unfortunately for the fans of the big blue boy scout, the answer is that Superman will not be making an appearance in the "Suicide Squad." Henry Cavill, who currently portrays the Man of Steel, recently said in an interview with Metro that he will not be in the upcoming "Suicide Squad" movie.
The British actor did not try to beat around the bush when asked about the upcoming 'villains only' movie. When asked about it, Cavill simply said "No." Succint enough considering that many actors like to play coy, feign ignorance or downplay any potential inclusion in movies. However, fans of Superman may have something to look forward to because when asked about potential sequels and if he would be in any of them, Cavill replied that he might be.
With both "Suicide Squad" and "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" looking to be box-office hits for the budding DC comics cinematic universe, Cavill, who plays one of the central roles, may need to be signed on to a multi-movie contract that is similar to what Robert Downey Jr. has with his Iron Man character.
With the rumors circulating around Superman now squashed, other rumors have begun to make their way around the internet. One such rumor is that of the true identity of the Joker in "Suicide Squad." Fans have begun to conjecture that Jared Leto is actually portraying one of Batman's former pupils, Jason Todd.
According to Techinsider, rumors began when photos of the look for Leto were first posted. Fans have been hypothesizing that there are several hints in the picture and trailer showing the Joker's true identity.
First is the Joker's broken teeth. During the Death in the Family story line, the original Joker beat Jason Todd with a crowbar before killing him. Fans say that the beating from the Joker must have led him to lose or break several of his teeth, which required him to have them replaced or fixed poorly.
Next are the tattoos that can be seen all over the Joker's body. Fans speculate that the "HaHaHaHaHaHa", the smile and the damage tattoos have all been done by the original Joker to mock Batman on his greatest failure as a superhero.
With that being said, fans are saying that Jason Todd was then brainwashed to think he is actually the Joker in a final cruel joke to Batman to show that he really did fail the boy wonder.
What do you think about the potential of Joker being Jason Todd? Would you have liked to see Superman in the first "Suicide Squad" movie? Let us know in the comments.
