Zac Efron Breaks 'High School Musical' Fans' Hearts, Doesn't Remember 'Breaking Free'

Efron had a hard time remembering his own song in "High School Musical," the "Breaking Free."

In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan UK, Efron was asked to play the game which the magazine calls "Beat The Intro." As the name of the game suggests, he will have to guess the title of the song just by the intro alone. Efron sat on the interview with co-stars in "We Are Your Friends," Emily Ratajkowski and Max Joseph.

In the video of the interview posted on YouTube, it can be seen that Ratajkowski was able to guess Beyoncé's "Drunk in Love." Joseph on the other hand immediately guessed Justice Vs Simian's "We Are Your Friends."

Cosmopolitan UK then played "Breaking Free" from the "High School Musical." While Efron did immediately recognize the song as coming from the Disney movie, he however had a hard time remembering the title. At one point, the game got almost awkward when Joseph pointed out the fact that it was Efron's voice and he was in fact the one singing the song. Efron said yes, admitting it was him singing, but then he followed it with "Holly Cow!"

When Efron recalled the title at last and finally blurted out "Breaking Free," it was already 24 seconds into the song, Cosmopolitan UK noted. Joseph teased him about this to which Efron replied that "there were three movies of songs," sort of apologetic.

For what it's worth, "Breaking Free" is not the only song barely recognizable for Efron. He and co-stars Ratajkowski and Joseph had no single clue about One Direction's "Steal My Girl" not even with Cosmo's prodding that the song is actually from "one of the biggest band's in the world guys!"

In fairness to Efron it has already been ten years since the success of "High School Musical." This too was noted by Cosmopolitan UK. But as much as the magazine wants to cut him some slack on this, it cannot help but say "how could you do this to us Zac? That song should be on your iPod on repeat."

In one episode of "Late Night," Efron also came clean about having fuzzy recollections of "Baywatch" being on TV. "I have vague memories of it being on TV," he told Seth Meyers as reported by Entertainment Weekly. "I remember Pamela Anderson. I could sort of see David Hasselhof," he said.
