On Sunday, Nintendo launched its Wii U to overwhelming success.
Despite selling out at most retailers, the console is still available in select stores and e-stores as of Monday morning including Amazon, Walmart, and Target.
Walmart and Target's websites state the consoles are only available in limited quantity at select stores while Amazon has increased the price of the console from its original retail price. Some prices on Amazon start at $477 and increase to over $1,000.
According to Forbes, there are over 2,500 Wii U systems selling for up to $500 on eBay as well. The $500 is actually a moderate leap as the 2006 Wii launch had the $250 console selling for as high as $1,000 on eBay due to its limited stock. The Wii U costs $300 for the most basic unit and $350 for the upgraded version that includes a bigger hard drive and Nintendo Land.
Firmware Update Irritates Fans
Latinospost published an article during the launch day that included fan reactions to the console. Among the most preponderant issue that fans experienced was the firmware update that the console imposes on the users. It takes an hour to download the one GB update which enables gamers to use the Internet Browser, MiiVerse, eShop, and backwards compatibility. It takes an addition 30 minutes to install. Some customers have unplugged their system because the firmware update takes so long and when they plugged it it back it they found out that they had "bricked" the system. The "bricked" system can no longer play games or do any functions of a typical game console, essentially rendering the machine completely useless.
