Is Jamie Dornan the reason "Fifty Shades Darker" is crawling at snail's pace?
If the project is not humming efficiently right now, it may not be completed in time for its scheduled Valentine's Day 2017 release.
"'Fifty Shades Darker' may be postponed because Jamie Dornan's wife is reportedly upset that he is getting too close to Dakota Johnson," The Stir said.
"The film was supposed to start shooting in the new year so that it would be ready for a February 2017 release," it went on to say. "But new reports say Dornan felt compelled to stop filming because his wife, Amelia Warner, was upset and disturbed by scenes from the new movie that require her husband become extremely close to Johnson's character, Anastasia Steele."
Looks like Dornan should have gotten his missus' 100% vote on the franchise before he signed the dotted line. If the reports are true, his significant other appears to be the one delaying the project. Will this lead to the actor pulling out of the film altogether?
The Stir's Lisa Fogarty, however, said that this rumor is most likely unfounded, as Dornan had previously spoke about his wife being supportive of his success. She reportedly even checks out the scripts he receives. There's also the fact that Dornan is very much smitten with his wife and "takes every opportunity possible to praise his wife during interviews."
If indeed the sequel's production is delayed, what's causing it? Could it be the hunt for a director?
It's a known fact that "Fifty Shades Darker" has no official director yet, as the original film's director Sam Taylor-Johnson has signed off from the franchise, allegedly due to creative differences with the racy trilogy's author. However, rumors have it that author E.L. James is willing to step up to that role. Despite this, producers reportedly balked at her interest and opted to go for a relative unknown to direct the flick to keep costs down.
"It's going to be someone new and the announcement will probably be made around July," a source told Hollywood Life. "They want a director who is not well known so they can keep the costs down and allow the studio and E.L. to get their way and their vision."
It's a wonder that the producers would want to lower production costs, considering the first film was a box office success. Could the penny pinching be down to the increased asking fee of the lead actors?
"It was said that Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey) and Dakota Johnson (Anastasia Steele) are both asking for at least a 7-figure salary to reprise their roles. That's a big jump given that the duo reportedly earned $250,000 for the first film," Movie News Guide said.
