Could Tarzan possibly be in "Frozen 2"? Will their worlds collide?
Some Disney fans had actually suspected the "Frozen" and "Tarzan" connection some time ago, thanks to "Frozen" co-director Jennifer Lee's revealing hint during a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" session. And now, it appears the theory has been confirmed.
Let's start from the very beginning.
During that Reddit AMA, when asked where Queen Elsa and Princess Anna's parents were going when they died at sea, Lee responded with this:
"According to Chris, they didn't die on the boat. They got washed up on a shore in a jungle island. The queen gave birth to a baby boy. They build a treehouse. They get eaten by a leopard..."
It can be recalled that Chris Buck, "Frozen" co-director, was also the co-director for the 1999 animated flick "Tarzan," which apparently was key to the connection.
However, before fans and observers run away with the jungle man link, it is worth noting that the "connection" is just "a nice figment of Buck's imagination," USA Today pointed out.
"When you're working on a feature, you have a lot of time to think about stuff because it takes four years to make one," Buck explained to MTV. "I think Jen [Lee] and I were walking to a meeting, and I just start to tell her the entire story."
"I said, 'Of course Anna and Elsa's parents didn't die,'" he went on. "Yes, there was a shipwreck, but they were at sea a little bit longer than we think they were because the mother was pregnant, and she gave birth on the boat, to a little boy." "They get shipwrecked, and somehow they really washed way far away from the Scandinavian waters, and they end up in the jungle," he continued. "They end up building a tree house and a leopard kills them, so their baby boy is raised by gorillas."
"So in my little head, Anna and Elsa's brother is Tarzan - but on the other side of that island are surfing penguins, to tie in a non-Disney movie, 'Surf's Up.' That's my fun little world," he said.
What if fans or Disney itself warms up to this idea and actually bankrolls it?
"I say, whatever people want to believe, go for it," Buck offered. "If you want to tie them all together, then do it. That's the spirit of Disney."
