Barring injuries like last time, the highly anticipated showdown between Jose Aldo and Connor McGregor will finally take place on December 12, 2015 at UFC 194 which will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Both fighters were originally scheduled to face off at UFC 189 but a rib injury forced Aldo to pull out of the match. Instead, McGregor was forced to face off against an ill-prepared Chad Mendes.
Though Mendes made a good account in the opening minutes of the match, a wrong move cost Mendes big time allowing McGregor to come away with the victory.
It would later on be learned that McGregor was likewise playing hurt (knee), and such somehow justified the trash talk that he hurled towards Aldo when the Brazilian pulled out due to an injury he sustained in training.
While the stage is set, the venue seems to have caught many by surprise. Apparently the December face-off was something that many had believed would take place at the Cowboys Stadium. Aside from the Aldo vs. McGregor match, another possible card would have been Ronda Rousey against Miesha Tate.
UFC President Dana White would alter on clarify via Yahoo Sports that the Rousey vs. Tate tiff will not be on the Aldo vs. McGregor card.
“If we were going to go to Dallas Cowboys Stadium, that’s another story, but the MGM really wanted the fight and they made a huge effort for it and they got it. And it works out better for us to be in Las Vegas” says White via Yahoo Sports.
Aldo and McGregor have continued to trade barbs after UFC 189 but it was evident that the two would eventually come face to face. And with that announcement, the stage is set in what is expected to be a highly energized match this coming December.
As far as the Rousey vs. Tate match is concerned, there are still some clouds surrounding that face-off.
This has something to do with the claims of Tito Ortiz that the UFC had offered a match to Cris Justino to face Rousey this December provided she is able to trim down to the 135-pound catchweight.
In a match that many would surely love to see, White had shot down those claims.
"The deal with Cyborg is, we told her to make 135 and then we would talk about a fight with Ronda," White said via Yahoo Sports. "And they haven't done that. They're still talking about fighting at 140 [in her next fight in Invicta]. What is wrong with these people? But we already said that Ronda was fighting Miesha Tate next and that's what we're going to do.
