The new host of "The Late Show" announced his first musical performer -- Stephen Colbert is taking over the CBS's night program and plans to bring on Kendrick Lamar.

At the Television Critics Association Press Tour on Monday, the comedic host said he wanted his last performer to be his premiere guest on the new venture.

"My last musical guest [on 'The Colbert Report'] was Kendrick Lamar, and I would love for him to be my first musical guest. In fact he will be my first musical guest," he confirmed, via TheWrap.

Colbert already confirmed his first guest will be George Clooney, according to Fox News.

The former Comedy Central personality will take over "The Late Show" from David Letterman, who held the position for more than 20 years. Aside from having big shoes to fill, he will now compete with fellow comedians Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel around the midnight hour.

However, according to Nina Tassler of CBS Programming, Colbert "considers himself of Dave's generation." "I don't want to produce viral videos," said Colbert. "I am going to do a show and hopefully people will share it."

So the fate of karaoke battles on "The Late Show" is to be seen.

Colbert also said that he is not looking to compete with other talk show hosts but rather himself, while mocking his lack of athleticism in the process.

"The idea of war between hosts makes no sense to me," he said. "It's not like my success takes away from anyone else. And fighting amongst each other doesn't sound funny. There is no joke there. So I am not interested."

"I didn't play a lot of sports when I was younger, so maybe I missed the competitive gene," he continued. "Competition isn't that fun to me. We are competing against ourselves to have fun on the show. I hope everybody does the same and has fantastic ratings."

The 51-year-old then revealed his optimistic outlook on taking over the show that holds a rich legacy.

"We have 202 [shows] a year. We are going to find what is right for me," he added. "I don't feel like I have to come right out of the gate knowing everything. I would like to have enough humility to find it as I go."

"The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" with George Clooney and Kendrick Lamar will premiere Sept. 8 on CBS.
