Gone are the days when girls have to visit the salon for those dramatic hair-dos. Girls have also gone DIY when it comes to their hairstyles. Such is the case with the latest hair craze—the heart-shaped hair trend, which is quick to do, charming and trending worldwide.
A photo of Kendall Jenner posted on Instagram in May has broken records in the website with three million likes. The snapshot, which was first spotted by Yahoo, showed Jenner in a white lace gown, lying on the floor with her eyes closed. What made this photo interesting to Instagram users is that the ends of her long hair are curled up into heart shapes. The photo has gone viral and with the heart-shaped hair trend instantly becoming viral.
The craze for the hairstyle has taken the international fashion blogosphere by storm. The fad has also reached South Korea with the girls from Seoul's fashionable Gangbuk District sporting their own version of the hairstyle. They call it the "heart-bangs hair," Kotaku reported. As the name suggests, the hairstyle, unlike that of Jenner's, involves only the bangs being curled up into a single heart. Whether they have been inspired by Jenner, or, as Yahoo pointed out, from the famous anime character, Sailor Moon, is hard to tell. According to Kotaku, the South Koreans are sporting the "heart-bangs hair" strictly for selfie purposes only. Hence, they have been posting photos of themselves on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
A curling iron, dexterous fingers and hairspray are all one need to make the “heart-bangs hair.” It may sound so easy that Karen King of Daily Mail Australia attempted to achieve the trending hairstyle. The result, however, is not something she expected. She ended up using “half a can of hairspray” just to make the curled strands take the shape of the heart.
“When I returned to my desk, I stared down my colleague sitting next to me who looked back awkwardly – not because of the love heart I painstakingly fried my fingers trying to create… but because he wasn’t exactly sure, what about me was different. Great,” King said of her experience.
However, Karen said that she is under if she'll be doing it again as she has to use too much hairspray everyday. "My forehead is lacquered,” King said.
