Black Ops II is on track to becoming the best-selling game of all time, according to publisher Activision, and so it comes as no surprise that connectivity errors have popped up alongside the blockbuster's worldwide launch.
IGN reports that some owners of the special Hardened and Care Package versions of Black Ops II for PS3 are unable to download the Nuketown Zombies and Nuketown 2025 arenas, while others are facing issues with the game's matchmaking system.
The design director behind Black Ops 2, David Vondehaar, assures affected gamers that servers "are indeed up and running, but we are also aware not everyone can connect. We are investigating something with our partners at Sony."
He adds, "We are currently testing backend matchmaking changes that we can help with this. I don't have a time table, or I would tell you."
The Activision support twitter account has advised gamers to remain persistent with entering their map codes, as the latest Call of Duty's online infrastructure is understandably strained by the influx of millions of gamers at once.
Although Activision has not clarified what is at the root of its matchmaking issues, it's likely that the game's launch woes are attributed to heavy traffic as well.
While players are now experiencing server problems, a number of PC gamers ran into packaging problems on launch day, and noticed that the second installation disc for the game was replaced with a copy of Mass Effect 2. Fortunately, the serial code provided with the copy of Black Ops II allowed those affected to download the game electronically.
