British newspapers this summer have been almost constantly filled with reports and rumours of Manchester United's transfer activity.
Manager Louis Van Gaal has actively sought to bolster his squad and has spent £83 million on new recruits this summer to add to the £150 million he spent the year before.
With the Red Devils set to kick off the new Premier League season this Saturday with a tricky home tie at home to Tottenham Hotspur, we analyse what Van Gaal's lineup could look like:
David de Gea
The Spanish goalkeeper was by far United's best player last season and despite being constantly linked to a move away from Old Trafford to Spanish giants Real Madrid, he will be Van Gaal's definite number one. New signing Sergio Romero will most likely have to be content with further time on the bench after not featuring much for last club Sampdoria.
Chris Smalling
Smalling has never convinced for United and this position continues to be the final piece in Van Gaal's squad. With the transfer window remaining open until the start of September if Van Gaal is to continue his spending it will surely be in order to bolster this position. However, Smalling should start against Spurs as he tries to prove his worth.
Daley Blind
Last year's £14 million signing from Ajax, Blind has been confirmed to lineup in the left side of defense for United this season. Despite being signed as a midfielder, Van Gaal seems dedicated to turning the 25 year old into the rock of his defensive line.
Luke Shaw
Backed earlier this summer to thrive for United this season, Shaw ultimately disappointed for the Reds in his debut year at Old Trafford, but at only 20 years of age the England international has all the hallmarks to establish himself as the next United left-back for years to come.
Matteo Darmian
Armed with plenty of top level experience, Darmian´s arrival at Old Trafford this season should provide the stability that the team lacked last season at the back. If pre-season is anything to go by, he is assured of his place having featured prominently since his arrival from Torino.
Michael Carrick
Despite the arrival of World Cup winning German captian Bastian Schweinsteiger, Carrick should keep his place in the United midfield. His season ending injury last season robbed United of their stabilizing forces in the middle and with him in the line up United have won 72 per cent of their games.
Morgan Schneiderlin
Morgan Schneiderlin could yet prove to be the best signing of the transfer window across the league. After enjoying a fantastic season last year for Southampton, Schneiderlin offers United a physical presence in the midfield and could be the Red Devil´s answer to Nemanja Matic or Yaya Toure.
Memphis Depay
Tipped to be the next great attacker at United, Depay will likely feature heavily in Van Gaal's new United team and will offer them incredible pace and fighting spirit that and could well gun the Old Trafford club to the title. Look out for big things from Depay.
Juan Mata
United's Spanish playmaker Mata seems to have gone a little bit under the radar this summer with all of the signings that have arrived at the club, but the new additions in midfield and attack could see the former Chelsea player return to his favored number 10 position behind Wayne Rooney and it could be a vintage season from the 27 year old.
Ashley Young
Having agreed a new contract at United, Young was one of the few success stories from Van Gaal's team last year and will add the hard work to United's left side. The exit of Angel Di Maria could prove to be a blessing for the England man, but if Van Gaal is keen to replace the Argentine then it could spell limited opportunities for the England international.
Wayne Rooney
Rooney looks set to rewarded for his patience with United by featuring next season in his preferred central striking role. With Dutch striker Robin Van Persie departing United this season, Rooney will finally be trusted to lead the line for the Reds and having scored 230 goals in 479 appearances from other positions, could be about to enjoy his best season to date.
