The MTV Video Music Awards are quickly approaching, and Taylor Swift's recent headlines over edging out Nicki Minaj is finally taking a backseat to the impending ceremony. As a constant contender for awards at the VMAs, her feud with the "Anaconda" rapper is now the second most memorable debacle over the VMAs -- behind her 2009 head-to-head run-in with Kanye West.
It was a shocking intrusion when West interrupted Swift's award speech for Best Female Video for "You Belong To Me." It was understood that the two were not on the greatest terms -- that is until now.
The "Style" singer is putting an end to rumors that she and the "All Day" rapper have bad blood, citing Jay Z as the source to unite them with a newfound "respect" for each other, and addressing speculations of a collaboration with her former enemy.
"I feel like I wasn't ready to be friends with [West] until I felt like he had some sort of respect for me, and he wasn't ready to be friends with me until he had some sort of respect for me-so it was the same issue, and we both reached the same place at the same time," she told Vanity Fair.
Swift is constantly touting her girl power crew of female celebrity friends, many of whom can be seen in her "Bad Blood" music video. However, it was the friendship with Hova that brought her and Yeezy to terms.
"I became friends with Jay Z, and I think it was important, for Jay Z, for Kanye and I to get along," she continued. "And then Kanye and I both reached a place where he would say really nice things about my music and what I've accomplished, and I could ask him how his kid's doing."
Now that the two are friends, rumors of their collaboration have been spreading. While there is no confirmation yet on when to expect to hear music from them, Swift praised West's talents to Entertainment Tonight.
"He's one of those people that's just like idea, idea, idea," she said. "He's very creative and... I think we've talked about it but we've also talked about so many other things... I completely respect him as a producer. So, that's all I know now."
Both Swift and West are participants for Jay Z's music streaming service, Tidal, which was launched in 2014. As two of the highest-selling and influential artists in the industry, being on good terms only makes better business, at least for Mr. Carter's site.
