During the course of the last few days, directors have stated their interest or lack there of in directing the upcoming Star Wars Episode 7.
JJ Abrams, Zack Snyder, and Quentin Tarantino have already expressed their lack of interest while others such as Guillermo del Toro have ambiguously skirted around the issue. Del Toro stated recently that he was not "formally" asked to direct the film which brings up a great deal of questions regarding his involvement in the process.
However it seems that the list has been narrowed as Frank Marshall, husband of Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy, stated that the list was narrowed down to a "couple of directors."
When pressed for names Marshall stated that he knew the names but " but I can't reveal it, or I won't be alive tomorrow." He added, "I know there's a couple of candidates, but I don't know how soon that will be revealed."
Regardless of undisclosing more details, the fact that the list has been narrowed down is a major sign for the project's progress.
The film has already hired Michael Arndt to write the script and the release date has been verified, so it is only a matter of time before the director is finally revealed for the next Star Wars film.
Marshall has also produced four of the Indiana Jones movies and was also asked about the potential of another installment and how Disney's purchase changes that franchise. "Well, I don't really think it changes anything. It's still open, but it's really on the backburner, and we're not really talking about it. Star Wars is next so that's what's being focused on, and Indy's back there, but nothing has changed."
