Movies of epic proportions, such as "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice," will likely have their fair share of critics. While the stars who portray Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman have already been revealed, Jena Malone's role remained a mystery, until recently.
Latino-review has exclusively revealed that Jena Malone will play as Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner Jim Gordon. The report claims to have multiple sources, but without Warner Bros.' confirmation, this detail is still best taken with a healthy pinch of salt.
As recalled by Screen Rant, comic book fans will remember that Barbara Gordon had two alter egos: Batgirl and Oracle. Barbara Gordon was a librarian by day, and went by the name Batgirl at night. She and Batman had a long history of fighting crime under the shadow of night. She was paralyzed after the Joker shot her in the spine in "The Killing Joke" story by Allan Moore.
Left crippled by the Joker and confined to a wheelchair, Barbara decided to help her fellow heroes fight crime as Oracle. With this new persona, Barbara made use of what she could. She became a hacker and has provided useful information for various superheroes. Barbara created a worldwide communication network where heroes can connect no matter where they are on the planet.
However, previous rumors about Jena Malone's character contradict this recent information. Looking back at what was released last year, the 30-year old, Lake Tahoe, Nevada born actress joined the cast of "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice." Many fans were left wondering which role she would be playing. Malone gave these fans a hint when she posted a selfie on Instagram, which showcased her red hair with the caption "Drastic times call for drastic measures."
Based on this information, fans were quick to speculate Jena Malone's character will be Carrie Kelly, the red-haired teenager Batman rescued on the animated movie "The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1." After her rescue, Carrie decided to become the next Robin. She proved herself worthy after saving Batman, when the caped-crusader took a beating from the Mutant Leader within an inch of his life. She was trained by Batman until she was worthy of the title "Robin." Carrie is one of the few female Robins in the Batman comic book.
In the absence of an official statement, no one can confirm or deny the gossip surrounding the "Sucker Punch" star. For now, speculations dictate that Jena Malone will be joining Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Jesse Eisenberg, Gal Gadot, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Scoot McNairy and Jason Momoa in the upcoming DC movie.
Still, Jena Malone fans could catch their idol much earlier in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2," where she plays ex-victor Johanna Mason, an ally to Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence). The film hits theaters on Nov. 20, 2015.
"Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" comes out on March 25, 2016.
