Eva Longoria blasted an Australian journalist after claims that the actress is faking her poor eyesight.
Celebrities are prone to a lot of criticisms on a daily basis but a certain comment made by an Australian newspaper lifestyle editor was able to push Longoria's buttons. The editor claimed that Longoria only wears glasses to promote an endorsement deal.
Fox News Latino reported that Australian editor Jenna Clarke criticized Longoria for wearing spectacles after 15 years of not being photographed wearing one.
In an article, titled "The Goss: Why Eva Longoria's shilling is shameful," the editor claimed that celebrities give "impartial endorsements" to things that they have no interest on. The write up stated that Longoria is only wearing glasses to promote her endorsement and the act doesn't have anything to do with poor eyesight. She added that she had done her research and only found two photographs of the actress wearing glasses.
"I decided to investigate further and found myself in some scary places on the net, commonly referred to as Pinterest, and all I could find were two photos of her ever spotted wearing glasses outside the house, oh and the few occasions she was seen looking uncomfortable and unsteady wearing a pair around Sydney this week. However Longoria has explained on Instagram she has worn glasses for reading since 2013," the editor explained. Clarke added, "Longoria, who is also a cosmetics ambassador, is a serial offender when it comes to selling out in a not so subtle way."
The actress didn't take the criticism with open arms and fired back with a statement which was posted using her Twitter account. According to Stuff.co, the 40-year-old actress explained that she has worn glasses long before Specsavers signed her.
"If you had done your journalist duty (it's actually not that hard, a more thorough google job, or one phone call to my camp and they could have provided you any documentation) you would see that I have been wearing READING glasses since May 3, 2013. Long before Specsavers called me," Longoria wrote.
She further said that she realized wearing reading glasses was necessary while she was getting her Master's degree back in 2013. The actress said that "the words were starting to blur and my eyes felt tired."
"So unless you are in bed with me at night, or in the morning at my breakfast table reading the morning newspaper, then you probably won't find a 'paparazzi' shot of me. And sorry I haven't worn glasses on a 'red carpet' Jenna, but shockingly I am not usually READING a book on the red carpet!" the "Desperate Housewives" star said.
