Amir Khan now moves forward with the hope of a possible tiff with Floyd Mayweather, Jr practically doused.
Practically in the sense that Mayweather Jr is likely to face Andre Berto this coming Sep 12, 2015 in Las Vegas though the fight has to be officially made.
Regardless, Khan has resigned to the fact that Berto is the anointed one and it would be best for the British southpaw to now figure out his next steps.
As far as his next opponent for 2015 is concerned, there is no indication for now who he would face. In fact, it could turn out to be a restful 2015 for Khan unless a fight gets arranged soon for a possibly November or December tiff.
For the year 2016, there is a chance that Khan could face Manny Pacquiao, his former sparring mate. News about a possible Pacquiao vs Khan is nothing new. Back in January, both camps met in London to discuss a potential fight since the Filipino boxer was left hanging on whether Floyd Mayweather Jr would really take him on.
As everyone knows, that meeting was overshadowed when Mayweather agreed to face Pacquiao last May 2, 2015 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas where the American boxer won handily via unanimous decision.
So, now the talks are up in the air again with Khan claiming that he was approached by promoter Bob Arum for a possible tiff with Pacquiao in 2016 in Dubai. While Pacquiao and Khan seem to have no issues between them, the same cannot be said for their handlers.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and Khan's adviser, Al Haymon, are in the middle of a legal battle. Apparently, this has something to do with Haymon's list of violations tied up with the Premier Boxing Champion series.
The plan is for Pacquiao and Khan to face in either March or April in Dubai. By this time, Pacquiao could be 100 percent healthy.
Pacquiao underwent surgery for his right shoulder soon after his bout with Mayweather and the Filipino boxing icon has since been in the sidelines as he nurses his shoulder back to full health. The question on his progress is up in the air, especially when Arum showed disappointment at the Filipino boxer for skipping some rehab sessions.
Despite the rants from Arum, Pacquiao assures him that everything is just fine. There were plans to seek treatment in the United States but the Filipino congressman believes that any form of treatment needed could be done locally in the Philippines.
A Khan vs Pacquiao face-off seems imminent and the only way that it could be waylaid is probably a rematch with Mayweather which many are speculating to happen.
So with that in play, could it be déjà vu for Khan as far as facing off with Pacquiao in 2016?
