With a writer on board for the upcoming Star Wars film, the attention has returned to prospective directors for the project.

Two directors that were in consideration were JJ Abrams and Zack Snyder. The former was known for relaunching the Star Trek  series on the silver screen while Snyder has been noted for his stylish 300, Watchmen,  and the upcoming Man of Steel.

However, neither of these two filmmakers will direct the upcoming Star Wars movie. Abrams stated in a recent Hollywood Life interview that Star Wars was one of his all-time favorite films and that directing it would come with a burden for him. The reason that he was content to direct Star Trek  was that it did not feel like "fatal sacrilege" to him. He did express enthusiasm for the upcoming Star Wars movie but that "I believe I will be going as a paying moviegoer." His rejection might also have to do with his commitment to the Star Trek franchise.

Snyder told the Los Angeles Times that he wouldn't be interested in directing it despite admitting to being a Star Wars Fanatic . "I just think doing seven, eight, and nine is just a slippery slope. It's a whole other mythological experiment I'm excited to see, but it's a lot of effort," stated Snyder.

One director who did show some enthusiasm was Jon Favreau, who recently directed Iron Man and Iron Man 2.The second of those films was under Disney. "I think there is a lot of question marks of how they are going to do it, and who they are going to do it with, and what the story is going to be about; but to say that I am not excited about it is definitely an understatement. We'll see," Favreau told the Hollywood Life. Favreau worked with Harrison Ford on Cowboys and Aliens and the veteran actor has been rumored as interested in returning to Star Wars.
